Complete makeover for Solvay company restaurant in Neder-over-Heembeek

The Solvay restaurant is a wonderful example of industrial architecture. The high windows let in lots of light and there's always a very pleasant atmosphere for people to enjoy. A section of the restaurant is set aside for managers and their guests. Solvay's staff and contractors eat their lunch in another area.

Traditionally, meals have always been served to the table in both restaurants, but thing will be different from now on. The new concept retains the two restaurant sections, but there is no more table service. Everyone is now free to go and help themselves from the wide range on offer: dish of the day, suggestions, grill, show-cooking, cold dishes, salad bar, desserts, and so on.

Eurest carried out a total reorganisation of Solvay's dining system at the request of the company. It was needed, too, because the arrival of 400 additional staff at the plant in Neder-over-Heembeek had increased activity at the staff restaurant appreciably. At the same time, Solvay also asked Eurest to optimise the number of its workers on site.

To make the throughput of people coming to the restaurant as smooth as possible, Eurest suggested introducing the PingPing payment system. With PingPing, members of staff are able to charge up their access badge with an amount of money so that they can use it to pay electronically in the restaurant. Which means that less time is taken up paying with cash.

VIP rooms and Delimarché

It's not just the restaurant at Solvay that has been given a makeover. The number of VIP rooms has also been expanded from five to eleven. There is still table service in these rooms and each day guests can choose from two menus. At breakfast or for a quick snack or coffee during the day, Eurest also offers a Delimarché facility.

Brand-new kitchen

The new catering formula at the company also required a different type of kitchen. This was designed in consultation with Solvay and is now much more practical than it was before. The change meant creating a new layout and installing new equipment. And because meals still had to be prepared while the refurbishment work was going on, Eurest made use of its Simplicity concept. This innovative concept for heating up meals quickly once again demonstrated its versatility.
