Scolarest invests in the most precious capital of our future:
youth!
The beginning of the calendar year was a school start for
Scolarest at Liège. A start not to be failed: students in
full preparation of examinations need regularity and a variety of
nutritive and healthy food. In short, a well dosed and
balanced supply of calories keeps the spirit alert whereas a richly
stuffed and heavy meal will tend to dozing. A university
course of dietetics? Rather, a simple reality...
Scolarest has been chosen as new food service provider at the
University of Liège on the basis of its precise answers to the
tender. Both a strict control of the budget and guaranteeing
a constant quality were the basic objectives.
The size of the contract is a challenge apart. Philippe
Scherpenbergs, district manager and responsible for the site,
supervises two self service restaurants (450 and 1000 passages at
lunch) offering a range of hot and cold dishes, a salad bar,
drinks, desserts, fruit, and six cafeterias which open at 8 o'clock
with breakfast and coffee for the nightclubbers. The
service is completed later on in the morning with an assortment of
sandwiches, hot snacks (panini, pasta), desserts, drinks, to
consume in situ or to take away.
Scolarest has introduced in each of its selling points the
programme Balanced Choices. This helps the guest to make a
well balanced choice of food all over his nutritive day. There is
nothing such as 'bad food', on the contrary: taste is a very
individual matter. However frequency and quantity do play an
important role. Fries can be a weekly habit, but should not
be an evidence daily. Labels inform the guests of specific
nutritive elements of certain products or preparations. The
food pyramid is the overall guideline. Scolarest edits every
month product notices to inform and 'educate' its guests.
The restaurants offer on daily basis an adapted and well chosen
range with among others the 'healthy dish'. Cafeterias
follow the same principle with the 'Healthy panini' and
the 'sandwich week's special' prepared with wholebread.
Fair trade has a prominent place with an exclusive consumption of
Mano-Mano coffee, the fair trade brand of Café Liégeois. The
introduction of other bio products on a sustainable way is now
being looked into.
Next to that Scolarest manages the restaurant reserved for
professors and guest speakers providing a table service (with a
capacity of 100 persons). The visitor can daily choose out of
three menus consisting of a starter, a dish and a dessert.
All the food services on the campus are taken care of by a team
of 50 persons of the university staff, assisted by 6 Scolarest
staff members. Next to the restaurant services, Scolarest
organises also all banqueting, going from receptions and cocktails
till special formulas for large manifestations. Examples are
the New Year wishes of the rector, the welcome drink for new
students etc.
School holidays do not equal vacation. Scolarest declares
its solidarity with students and assures permanency throughout the
year, although on a limited number of catering sites during the
holidays.
