Residential care campus Oleyck lets residents enjoy local cuisine

Residential care campus Oleyck is introducing the concept of 'local days' for residents to enjoy delicious local products. Eight times a year, those days will make maximum use of the products offered by local suppliers and producers. On 16 March, the first Local Day took place. Chef Jurgen put a classic "stew" on the menu, made with the delicious local beer Tumulus. It was a successful initiative that could also count on the enthusiastic support of the board! The chef's creativity is much appreciated, as is the excellent follow-up by operations manager Jos Broux.

Early this year, residential care campus Oleyck renewed the cooperation with Compass Group Belgium and Medirest, after a satisfactory collaboration of twenty years already. In the coming four years, we will be responsible for managing the central kitchen and preparing meals for the residential care centre, the daily care centre, the meals at home, the neighbourhood operation and the Ons Zonneke day nursery for children.

Eddy Vandenbosch, alderman responsible for welfare, explains: "The quality of the service package played an important role in the choice of supplier. With the introduction of 'local days', the company wants to emphasise local products, especially in the context of sustainability, respect for local tastes and the well-being of the residents. This is a mission that is very close to the board's heart and will therefore be repeated on a regular basis."

Gary Peeters, alderman for tourism and senior citizens: "As local government, we fully support the short chain story. Compass Group will examine together with the board which local products can be included in the project. We are pleased that we can give residents and visitors to the campus a taste of all the good things our region has to offer."
